Pilcrow v0.1
A downloadable placeholder
The purpose of this system is to easily adapt literature into a playable ttrpg. Unknown conflict dice pools are rules-lite and the Narrator is guided to incorporate themes, plots, and settings. Of course, the more familiar the Narrator is with the work, the more likely the setting, scenes, and conflicts reflect the characters, plot and themes of the work.
Some overarching principles of this SRD include:
- Fun over Canon - The gameplay will naturally stray from the canon plot, but the emphasis should be on an entertaining game session instead of nitpicky fiction-checking. I will include suggestions for Low and High Fidelity adaptations.
- Dice are not the master - Conflict resolution is through dice pools and counting successes, but narrative mechanics (flashbacks, missing information, etc) keep gameplay quick and fun..
- Out-of-the-box creation - a game adaptation will not require scholar-level knowledge of the work, but should be easy to derive from easily accessed information about the plot, characters and setting (via Wikipedia for example), or be easily fudged with genre or period tropes.
This SRD is currently in active development and all itch-funding will go towards art.
